A Good Work

“…Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 1:6 (NIV)

Sarah had always strived to make the “right” choices. She attended the “right” college, married the “right” kind of man, and pursued a career in the “right” field. But for all her efforts, life felt strangely hollow. She often went through the motions, feeling more like a spectator than a participant in her own story.

Her fear of making mistakes was paralyzing, leaving her exhausted and disconnected. Then, her world shifted when her three-year-old son fell ill and was hospitalized.

As Sarah sat in the hospital waiting room, her mother flew in to support her. “I can’t do it anymore, Mom,” Sarah confessed tearfully. “I’m exhausted, overwhelmed, and my soul feels suffocated.”

Her mother listened patiently. When Sarah finished, her mother gently replied, “Stop trying so hard. God has started a beautiful work in you, and He will see it through. You don’t need to strive in your own strength. Just cling to the Vine.”

Her mother’s words reminded Sarah of a profound truth: God’s work in her life wasn’t dependent on her perfection or effort. It was His strength, His plan, and His timing.

Reflection:
Sometimes, we get so caught up in striving for perfection that we forget who the author of our story is. Philippians 1:6 reminds us that God is faithfully completing the good work He’s started in us. It’s not our strength or efforts that sustain us—it’s His grace.

Unique Quote:
"God’s masterpiece isn’t created in a rush; it’s shaped in trust."

Prayer:
God, when I feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulders, remind me that You are the one carrying me. Help me to surrender my fears, my plans, and my life into Your hands. I trust You to complete the beautiful work You’ve begun in me. Teach me to cling to You, the true Vine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Blessings, Pastor Stephan
